I'm a first time animator like you, but I think I could help you out.
1. Try out the different features in Flash. Just experiment and see what happens.
2. Come up with as many ideas as possible, but try to have original ideas.
3. Develop your own style. Make your animations unique.
4. Practice makes perfect!
